Lots of runners from Syosset, Woodbury and Jericho were among the more than 400 runners who were on hand at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School to participate in the 13th annual edition of the Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run to benefit Northwell Health System’s Plainview and Syosset hospitals on July 17.

Runners from the local area were especially prominent on the list of award winners. The top local finisher was 19-year-old Syosset speedster Harry Prevor, who was the fourth-finisher overall and first in the 16-19 age group with a finishing time of 18 minutes, 8 seconds. Not too far behind was 15-year-old Sean Ahearn of Syosset, who scored in 18:52, good for ninth-place overall and third in the 13-15 age group.

Other local runners winning awards were Rebecca Simon of Jericho (24:43, second woman 16-19 age group), Stephanie Saraniti of Syosset (25:12, second woman 45-49 age group), Ann Dorman of Woodbury (25:49, third woman 50-54 age group), Janet Healy of Syosset (26:07, third woman 60-64 age group), Tim Healy of Syosset (21:19, first 60-64 age group) and Bert Jablon of Syosset (40:41, first 85-89 age group).

Special awards were won by Jason Fishbein of Syosset (second Northwell Health physician, 22:46) and Diana Cusa of Syosset (third female Northwell Health employee, 26:28).

Congratulations and thanks to Nassau County legislator Judy Jacobs, who also serves as the director of community relations at Northwell Health Systems, was the well deserved honoree at this year’s Heart & Sole Run and the recipient of a special award plaque from Michael Fener and Dr. Alan Mensch.

The run was once again a cooperative venture between the Greater Long Island Running Club and the staffs of Plainview Hospital and Syosset Hospital.
