Science_120915ASixth-grade students in the St. Edward the Confessor STEM Club participated in using a triple beam balance to measure the mass of charcoal for their emergency water filters.

After exploring waste water recycling and the challenges of clean water access in some parts of the world, students researched filtration materials and, following a budget, decided which materials to use in their filter.

The St. Edward the Confessor STEM Club meets regularly under the direction of Pamela Tangle to work on inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Math related projects and activities. —Tribune Staff
