The Friends of the Syosset Public Library recently announced the winners of their 2015 essay contest, “My Most Unforgettable Hero/Heroine And Why.”

The winners included second graders Sara Gao and Lawrence Hon, as well as fourth grader Sabrina Guo. All three aspiring scribes won prizes and read their essays, which judges said were emotionally moving, informative and well written.

Following the essay contest, the Syosset Library Friends witnessed a fascinating demonstration of Lego Mindstorms, an interactive and technologically-advanced building system that allow children’s minds and imaginations to grow. The Friends presented the Lego product to the library as a gift, along with passes to the Long Island Children’s Museum and pocket calendars.

The Friends of the Syosset Library is a volunteer group dedicated to furthering community awareness of the functions, resources, services and needs of the library.
