North Shore Synagogue of Syosset will present Cantor Magda Fishman And Friends: An Evening Of Our Favorite Things, presenting songs influenced by a variety of musical styles, from Jewish rock to gospel, liturgy to Israeli music, jazz to Broadway on Sunday, April 6 at 7 p.m.
The concert will blend musical tastes and stylings with the skills of the North Shore Synagogue Cantors and very special musical guests.
Cantor Magda Fishman has performed in concert with great success throughout the United States and Canada, in Israel and Europe, at such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center, the Prague State Opera and the Bitter End. She has created a unique blend of traditional and contemporary styles that elevate her congregation’s spirits to an unimaginable place through her voice and her soul.
Special guests include Gilad Cohen, an outstanding musician and composer who is also a PhD student at Princeton. Cohen plays multiple instruments and was praised by the 2010 Israeli Prime Minister Awards Committee for music that is “fascinating, vibrant and drawing the ear as well as the heart.” They will be joined on the stage by Nadav Snir, an amazing Israeli jazz and world music drummer who has performed at Carnegie Hall, at Zankel Hall, and at the landmark jazz club Birdland. Cantor Randy Herman, a rising star in his own right with a CD titled “Through Time,” to be released on April 30, will play keyboard and sing original compositions.
To round out the program, Cantor Rich Pilatsky will be featured, along with special guest stars from our Religious School, Sophie Bernard and Jillian Smith. The concert will conclude with Cantor Herman sharing the stage with the newly formed North Shore Koleinu, an adult singing group that focuses on love of music and fun.
