Brookville artist Joanne Von Zwehl will be among 50 artists displaying works as part of the Women of the World Exhibition on Feb. 26 at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola.
From 6 to 9 p.m., this free event features Long Island’s most distinguished female artists and photographers in efforts to spread awareness for the arts.
During the event, entrants, selected by event curator Jill Rader Levine, will be judged by industry experts and academic professionals in two categories, fine arts and photography. Judges will include prominent members of the art community with winners in each category receiving prizes.
Von Zwehl, a portrait and landscape artist, follows one of the oldest traditions of American painting, while adding a contemporary dimension to her portraits: anonymity.
The subjects do not engage the viewer but the viewer is drawn into their world and ignited by it.
Von Zwehl’s work has been feature in news, magazine and TV publications throughout the world and she has had national and international commissions.
