On Feb. 2 at 1:45 p.m., the Syosset Fire Department responded to an automatic alarm and a phone alarm for smoke coming from the ceiling of the Starbucks store on Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury.

ladderArriving units found a moderate smoke condition inside the store and crews searched for the source as others evacuated the rest of the stores in the shopping center.

Crews on the roof found a motor in the HVAC system had burned up causing the smoke condition.

The unit was secured and all occupants were able to return to their stores. Chief Peter Silver was in command of the operation.
