
Syosset High School seniors Justin Bergson and Hyunkee Sung recently performed with the All-National Honors Ensembles at the National Association for Music Education National Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
A total of 272 students from all 10 Syosset schools have been recognized as All-County Musicians.
“Syosset consistently has among the highest number of student-musicians accepted into these very prestigious honors ensembles,” said Michael Salzman, the district’s coordinator of fine and performing arts. “We are especially proud this year that so many of our students have been recognized by these outside organizations and asked to represent our schools.”
The New York State School Music Association recognized 21 Syosset High School students with 24 acceptances as either performers or alternates for All-State. Of these, 14 will travel to Rochester in early December to perform alongside the finest student-musicians in New York State.
All-State musicians include: Victoria Albanese, women’s chorus; Christopher Cardoz, trombone; Austin Chen, trumpet; Rohit Gupta, snare drum and timpani alternate; Gregory Kim, trombone; Mary Kim, violin; Michelle Lee, flute; Adam Obedian, mixed chorus; Sarah Sayage, mixed chorus; Daphne Solomon, mixed chorus; Jeffrey Wang, violin; Angela Wee, violin; Amanda Xu, violin; Sharon Yoon, accepted on both violin and viola; Michael Zhu, tuba; Florence Fu, flute alternate; Lynn Hur, cello alternate; Stella Kang, viola alternate; Brett Levine, chorus alternate; Tyler Oringer, jazz drum set alternate; and Rohith Rokkam, mallet percussion and snare drum alternate.
Additionally, Syosset High School seniors Justin Bergson and Hyunkee Sung recently performed with the All-National Honors Ensembles at the National Association for Music Education National Conference in Nashville, Tenn. Justin sang with the All-National Chorus and Hyunkee played viola with the All-National Orchestra.
All-County musicians will be rehearsing in January with their peers from throughout the county for their Tilles Center performance.
